I think we’re alone now

Nod to Tiffany and simpler though no less horrifying times (1). It seems the world has been on the brink of disaster every moment of our lives. Ozone holes, WWIII, and now the biggest and baddest of all boogeymen, climate change, has finally come to roost. Oh, and of course our leaders are setting us up for a replay of the Cold War. Meanwhile, at least here in the states, we’re debating whether we’re a democracy.

Of course we’re not! We’re an oligarchy. Always have been. The only difference has been the oligarchs. We’ve always lived by the Golden Rule : s/he who has the gold, rules. From the smallest towns, to the the most powerful capitalist nation on Earth, the Golden rule is the rule of the land. The only question is if they care about the rest of us.

It’s clear this generation of oligarchs does not.
